Start with the problem, not the tool
It's tempting to open a software review site and shop. Resist. Write down the actual problem you're trying to solve, who it affects, and what 'solved' looks like. Then look for tools.
Shortlist aggressively
Three options are easier to evaluate than ten. Narrow quickly based on category fit, price range, and reputation.
Trial, don't just read
Reviews and comparisons (including ours) help you shortlist. But before committing, run a short trial with real data and real workflows.
Check the exit
Before adopting, understand how you'd leave. Can you export your data? What formats? This matters more than most buyers think at the time of purchase.
Review annually
Software needs change. Build a lightweight annual review of your stack to retire tools you no longer use and consolidate where it makes sense.
