Write things down

Remote teams win or lose on documentation. Decisions, context, and processes that live only in meetings and DMs don't scale. Put them in a wiki or workspace tool and reference them often.

Default to async

Treat synchronous meetings as a limited resource. Save them for things that genuinely need real-time dialogue; use docs, Loom-style video, and threaded tools for everything else.

Pick a workspace and stick to it

Fragmentation kills remote productivity. Consolidate as much as possible into a single workspace tool (Notion, Confluence, or similar), then integrate the rest.

Make status visible

In an office, status is ambient — you see people. Remotely, you have to intentionally surface it: project boards, standup threads, weekly updates.

Protect focus time

The main advantage of remote work is uninterrupted focus. Build team norms (and tooling) that protect it.
